My friend, Shirley

Shirley is a friend very dear to me. She was my first friend in Sydney. I was feeling so alone after sending my mum off and I went down the hallway knocking on my neighbour's door, making new friends. She was the first to answer my door. It is strange how we didn't really have many common friends and we didn't hang out in a group but we managed to share a close relationship. In my first year in Sydney, we spent many many nights together. We bunked in my room on my inflatable mattress and in the morning, Shirley would grab her stuff running back to her room before Sasa the housekeeper do her rounds.

I haven't met Shirley since we left Sydney. Shirley is not into MSN, FB etc. We talk once in a blue moon but since she had her first baby, she hardly comes online. Few days ago, Shirley added me on Skype. She left me a voicemail. This morning, when I logged onto Skype, she gave me a ring. We spoke for the first time in years. It was brief, but it brought back many fond memories. There are not many people in this world who can bring back many dear memories and leave you in tears after a conversation. She did.

I am happy for Shirley that she found happiness. I am happy for Shirley that she is now a mummy. One day, I will visit Shirley and she will bring me to Tibet.

With thanks

Started tossing and turning at 6 a.m., was somehow mentally awake but physically asleep. At 6.30 a.m., my phone beeped and I received a sms from a friend. Got up, reached out for my phone and was pleasantly surprised.

Thanks XC. Thanks for making my day!

Reconnecting or reconnected

We surrendered some money and penned on the sales agreement today. We are officially nested! =P

Mdm got a Friendster message from an old friend some time back. I visited my Friendster account out of the blue and saw her message. By then, I was like one whole month late (cos Friendster being Friendster i.e. the dated social networking platform, I have completely neglected its existence for the longest of all time). It was kinda like a hi-bye message. Anyway, we went on to add each other on Facebook and me being totally obsessed with Restaurant City, was busying myself arranging furniture, upgrading menu etc. and didn't put much effort in getting reconnected. Just today, I saw on my Facebook homepage that my friend has uploaded an album. It was, to my greatest surprise, her wedding album. I was like "OMG!".

It struck me only now that it wasn't just another hi-bye message and I realized I have been an unbelivable friend to Ms Lok. How often do you find yourself like me, being guilty of being an unappreciative jerk?

Humidity in Singapore

Yesterday, Shan sent me this picture and I was commenting on Daryl's just-got-up look. He must be hating this auntie for getting him out of his sarong. LOL.

And then today, I saw the picture on Facebook, again. I noticed that my hair looked wet (greasy) and my face was uber oily. Now I agree with P about the weather in Singapore.

Anywayz, Happy Friday!

Yaya

Just this Yesterday afternoon, I met a group of visitors from China. And being the only person in the Graduate Building who can speak Mandarin, J brought them to me. We had a brief conversation and I was wrecking through my brain to translate my title ("Development Officer"), our office ("Office of Insitutional Advancement") and even simple words like "proposals", "grants" etc. It was so embarassing when I was searching for the right words and went "uh...uh.." while the whole bunch of them just stood staring at me. I was literally sweating after the session. I am pretty sure one of the reason I was offered the job was my ability to converse in Mandarin. China being a huge market and with the increasing number of Chinese students enrolling each year, the Management had hoped for us to tap into the Chinese market for philanthropic funds. I was even hoping to teach in the Chinese Department but I am having lots of self doubts right now.

Anyways, I had wanted to get home and make a list of the Mandarin terms that would come in handy in future. Naturally, I thought of getting help from Yaya. And then, the news of the big quake in Sichuan came. She hasnt been online for the whole of tonight yesterday night. I dunno where exactly in Chengdu she's living in but I am hoping that she's only being affected by the cut of communication lines. Yaya!!!

Facebook, Car and CCK

I found someone I havent met in yearssssss. Like 15 years?!? OMG. How can I lose my childhood friend like that?!? I am so missing the crazy band sessions in primary school.

Just back in Sg today. I havent left for ages but just away for 3 months. It's so human to be used to routine and habitual living. My dad's car seemed so undrivable to me now. The brakes, the steering and the height etc. I was looking for the handbrakes at the wrong position!!!

I love sending the CCK gang home cos it never fails to bring back lotsa memories when I drive around that area. Anywayz, they are doing something weird to the MRT station and Lot One has adopted a new logo. I dont like the facelift they are giving to the various places around. I know I'll be around once every few months... but dear planners... read Gordon Cullen!!!

I had fun today. Well, not the chiong and get crazy fun but the chatting and catching up kindda fun. As for tomorrow, I'll be meeting the Kungpows!

Updates

A close friend of P is getting married tomorrow today and we had prepared him a wedding gift few days ago:

2nd piece by Mdm =)

We prepared the equivalent of our ang pao this last evening. It's their tradition to place the money back in the invitation card's envelope. It's super hassle free. Even our names were already written and we merely have to pass the envelope back to the couple.

_____________________________________

Had a rather busy day helping out in the morning and attending the dinner in the evening. We completely forgot about the gift... and the ang pao!!! Went to the banquet empty handed... =.='' Updates soon. *Yawnz*

Attending thai level 3 starting tomorrow... may I be blessed with interesting classmates and teacher. Hope the Korean gang who can hardly speak english is disbanded. I need people who can speak english!

Final countdown!!!

Past few days were fantastic. Had a very enjoyable time lazing around doing nothing. How nice is life ~.~

Just 2 days of not working and I felt like I have rested like... forever! *Muacks* How work has drained my energy! And now... I feel charged up! Keke... at least my dark rings seem to be vanishing. Was packing my stuff for the past few days and by this afternoon, I'd managed to empty out my cupboard. My clothes were packed into this mega size luggage bag. From now on, I would be getting clothes from it. The rest that are meant to be posted would be sent on Monday. Didnt take that much time packing up though. Actually it was quite a breeze, unlike the time when I was returning from Sydney.

And... I've bought my tix! The departure date is fixed. Feeling rather excited, anxious and filled with lotsa anticipation. Time's kindda tight though.

Attended baby Daryl's first month celebration. It's so surreal seeing your childhood friend with a baby in her arm and being a mom. We seem to have skipped a step in life, I dunno wat but something seem to be missing.

Dear Harry

Doesnt blogger actually does the autosave thingy? What happened to my previous entry? Argghhh

Harry's here!!! After a long 2-year wait, he has finally arrived! Gonna read it so damn super slow. Spent my morning in the office looking through Wikipedia to find out if dear Ron will still be surviving by the end of the book. And... well, quite a satisfactory ending. Me is happy. ^-^

Time is moving so slowly now. Since that fateful day, time in the office seems motionless. If I am given a topic, I believe I would be able to finish up a thesis before I leave. But then again, I should count myself lucky. As compared to those who are going to be stuck here (or elsewhere), I only have 11 more working days to go.

Had a gathering over at my place on Saturday. Guess my definition of gathering starts to differ from the rest, judging from the boredom on their faces. Or maybe, I am kinda getting domesticated. Nonetheless, Mdm Chong will always enjoy this kind of cosy gathering, unless of course if someone else has a better suggestion. I quite like munching on food and chatting away, although the TV programmes were kinda distracting. The last time my Jie Meis and I had one, we were pretty much enjoying it. The food + dessert + wine and with the company of Tony Leung and Kaneshiro Takeshi.

I remembered for a period of time, meet-ups for Allstars were at their all time low cos no one wanted to initiate and be responsible for all the planning (i.e checking out free slots, deciding on dinner venues, co-ordinating, getting last-min aeroplanes, deciding on after dinner activities etc). Somehow, the peculiar thing is that the person who initiates has to be the person who plans the entire itinerary for the day.

Mdm Chong is raising the white flag.

Cafe del mar

Thanks Pin for the initiative and the rest for the fun! I enjoyed myself lots =)

By the way, the bites are hideous. Got a great shock when I woke up this morning. Those who got it from me... my sincere apologies! LOL~
