And then, it's year 6!

6 years married.

Gosh. Where did the time go?

Went by the day with a simple date lunch,  in the theatres for Man of Steel then ended it off with a family dinner at an italian restaurant that we hadn't been in eon (little man was making abit of fuss, probably due to the lack of sleep and getting tired out at the pool).

No fanfare but with a small gift for each other on this special day. Life is blissful as it is now (would do better with a little more sleep when little man sleeps better).

And so I thank you and you for warming my heart. Less is more, indeed!

About how a (going to be) 8 month old has changed our marriage

It has been  long time since I blogged about anything that is non-Utt related. It is hard to believe how our lives have been over the last few months, revolving around the young chap at least 90 percent of the time. Papa said time over time that our lives have changed - not essentially a bad thing but well, Mama couldn't agree more with him. On the other hand, Mama seems to have forgotten how things were previously. Things didn't just change in a snap of my fingers but the forced transition has come in a rather predictable fashion (though loaded with much unpredictable events). Mama also find myself loving Papa abit differently now. Well, this is again not something bad. It is just part of growing up (old) with someone who would be in your life for a long time. We still do silly things and make silly jokes together, but we definitely have less time for them now. And when we decide to visit a new restaurant our main concern would be whether it is kids friendly (i.e. whether we can save the rest of the diners from a possibly fussy baby). The last time we were out shopping, we ended up in the kids' section.

Mama is still resisting the idea of co-sleep. Papa is so not going to like it because sleep is very high on his priority list in life. As for Mama, I am a super light sleeper and with the little one on the same bed would mean lots of sleepless nights. The sleeping arrangement is still working out ok for now and I don't know how long this is going to last because I heard about how bad things are when the tiny ones start standing up/ walking and make the biggest fuss ever when trying to get out of their crib. The moments before heading to lala land is also the time I spend doing my last chat of the day with Papa so this is a treasured time.

With the little one, life seems to involve many plans and ironically many uncertainties. This is probably what makes parents beam when sharing experiences of parenthood.

When the man takes charge

Today is the first day Papa is trying his hands in putting Mini to sleep all by himself, meaning bathing then feeding and singing the Mini lullabies before putting him down into his cot and sneaking out of his room.

And Papa did it!

Half a decade down the aisle

Celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary on Sunday, with a family trip with Buddy in tow to a dam 20 km from our place. Armed with our Canon EOS and a tripod, we had wanted to takee some maternity shoots in the field and then after a sumptous lunch by the dam, the rain started to pour. And here Buddy shared our emotions as we waited for 15 mins in the car for the rain to stop, but it never did (and we chose to leave) and we shifted the shoot location to our nest. Came up with some really cheesy looking shots but had lots fun nonetheless.

Dinner was at a swanky restaurant that served mediocre food at exorbitant price (think Chiang Mai standard). Did grocery shopping after dinner and P suggested for us to go on separate ways to grab an anniversary present for each other. 20 mins was the give time. And so I roamed aisle upon aisle, trying to figure out what best (and most interesting) to get in a hypermarket. Ended up with an incredibly boring CD case and when we met at the cashier's, we both had a good laugh. He had intended to buy me an electronic weighing scale. In the end, we both decided that they are nonsensical buys and so, we left with just a pack of detergent and no presents for this anniversary. Not like we intended to do any gift exchange anyway, but the whole idea of impromptu shopping for one is pretty fun. It's probably more interesting than getting your hands on something physical.

And so, we ended our day back at home. Our 5th year together as husband and wife, and many more to come. Like P said cheekily, it just felt like yesterday.

An hour before the big 3

We are doing it before schedule

It's an ice cream maker!!!!!

P wrote "Happy Birthday Chong Hwai Yuet" on the present. Maybe he's being too polite (or rude). How incredible.

Celebrating our 4th year of marriage

Called to book a table for 2 at our current favourite.

Chef said: " For 2? You like cous cous? Fish? I will cook you something nice"

Woohoo. I cannot wait for 7pm to come.

Impatient us did the gift exchange last night, and as what we do all the time, it's lots of guessing and acting suspiciously. The build-up was unbearable so each declared to not wait till the clock strikes 12. P was enjoying the fun of picking presents, guessing and dropping hints. Into our 5th year of marriage, this probably is the one greatest change in him.

We have our fair share of squabbles as all others do, but I am happy that we are able to (most of the time) give in to each others nonsense and occasional mood swings. It's amazing how much we have both changed to accommodate each other and taught each other things about life that we never knew before. One of the greatest lessons P taught me was never to expect anything from anyone. Never be nice thinking that you will get the same treatment back. That's pretentious. I hope that year after year, we will not forget our "please"s and "thank you"s, be polite to each other always and P will still be asking me to leave the dishes to him.

Let's see what I will blog on our 5th anniversary.

P asked for at least the 5th time yesterday: "Where should we bring your parents to?"

Just this, enough to make my day.

Happy CNY from my couch!

I love getting home, lying on the sofa and getting my fingers busy on my iPhone while listening to the trickling sound of water as P does his gardening. We have divided our housework chores in a very well coordinated fashion all done without prior discussion. In fact, other than me saying no-no to the toilet washings, the rest of the chores just went well divided between us.

It's the time of the year for me to miss home, the goodies and the awesome company. The good news is, I will be home in a week's time. It would be too late for the CNY ambience, but it's never too late to be by people I love. Happy Chinese New Year to all!

At least, I have Glee!!!

HBD Hubby

Molten chocolate lava for P's 31st birthday.

P requested gluey molten chocolate in his cake. I topped his request with a new found chocolate ganache recipe

I cannot believe he's 31. It seems just a while ago when we celebrated his 25th birthday. That was a crazy year.

Gardeners' monday

We spent our Sunday evening at my in-laws' farm and I was happily picking fresh vegetables, got a kick out of it and ended up buying some vegetable seeds at the fresh market while grocery shopping. After work on day 1 of the week (hogged by fatigue, retardation, etc.), we got 2 new planter boxes from the local flower market and headed home.

And so, we began planting our first crop in the garden!

Compared to me, the urbanite, P is actually very well-versed in all the gardening know-hows.

We are planting bak choy!!!

Our marriage is 3 yo!

Mdm created this, intending to send it to the printers, blow it up and hang it above our computer desk.

P and I had an unusually quiet 3rd anniversary. With our daily shuttles to the hospital, we were too occupied to indulge in celebration. P spent 2 nights straight at the hospital and was back on the 30th. Before the clock struck 12, he came to me and went "Happy Anniversary!". I wasn't expecting him to remember since I half suspected he wasn't keeping track of dates (P is dependent on Google calendar, and he must have not touched his lappie for a while). Anyway, it was to me surprisingly sweet since he was really held up by my FIL's hospitalization but he did remember it afterall. On the 1st (the day that marked our 3rd anniversary), I made brekkie. In the noon, I dropped by the supermarket, got his favourite chocolate, drove back home and laid it on the bed. When we got home at night after our trip to the hospital, he found the chocolate on the bed and went

P : "Why is there chocolate?!".
Looking extremely pleased (and guilty), he went
P : "Sorry, I don't have time to get you anything this year"
Me: "It's fine. But, was there anything last year?"
P : "I bought you FLOWERS. FLOWERS!"

Ha. He actually remembered but I didn't. It goes to show, men are not as simple-minded as they seem to be.

Happy FRIDAY!!!

My husband

Officially, we have a nest! Work's not 100% done but we have gotten it transferred. P finalised the administrative matters this morning. As non-Thais are not allowed to own any property in Thailand, the house would be solely P's. At 12, the impatient me called to check on the status.

Me: So everything's done?
P : Yes, and now I officially have a 3 million Thai baht debt
Me: Well, at least you have a house.
P : You have me, and my heart.

He's not a block of wood afterall.

Beer and bag

We were at the grocery store yesterday when P started filling up the basket with his now daily supply of beer, juices, tibits, etc. He looked into the basket and went "Oh! I am so guilty. Why don't you pick some stuff too?". I contributed less than 5% to the total expenditure at the grocery store (spent 10 baht on a pack of wet tissue). I am actually not quite into snacking (not so much because there is a fear of putting on weight, but it seems to be implanted in my brain that processed food is unhealthy and should be avoided). I turned around and told P to remember that as and when I decide to buy a somewhat expensive bag (which would be capped at one per year), he should bear in mind the guilt he felt when spending on those junk food.

I guess, everyone is just different.

Baby production

It's a slow start on a lazy Monday (as per most other Mondays). Saturday was spent lazing at home while Sunday at a nearby plant market. Nothing too intensive on both days and this probably explains the current retardation.

Some time ago, P and I were at the "When are you ready to for a kid" (or rather, I asked when he would be ready). He replied without hesitation "I am ready when you are". The situation is starting to get kind of tricky. We are married for 2.5 years now. He's coming 31 and I am turning 29 in another 8 months (phew!). Our nest is going to be ready in approximately 2 months. The excuses to push back this whole baby production seems to be weaker over time. Seriously, I don't know when I will ever be ready for a new addition in our lives but I would rather not have these as reasons for me to conceive.

If everything goes as planned, the first half of this year would be a busy one. I hope to achieve as much as possible before we welcome a new life into our family. I constantly remind myself that I have to work towards personal fulfillment in life as well as building a better future for my kid.

2nd year since walking down the aisle

P was 2 hours late yesterday and by the time he came for me, I thought I was the last staff on campus.

Not long after I hopped onto his car, he went like "oh shit, can you check if my laptop is in the bag". I reached out to the back and was greeted by a bouquet!

He actually chose the flowers. =)

We went to one of our favourite restaurants here in Chiangmai. Nice food, good ambience but a tad crowded with Thai speaking caucasians. It sure wasn't a fun-filled night but we did have a great time.

At this moment in my life, I am appreciating the fact that I have P by my side. It has been a whole 2 years filled with joy and laughter.

As I was told,

“Love means living the way God commanded us to live. As you have heard from the beginning, His command is this: Live a life of love.” 2 John 1:6 (NCV)
